Age Spots

Age Spots
Age spots are flat and dark areas on your skin. They vary in size and generally appear in areas exposed to the sun. They are caused by the body producing excess melanin or the pigment that gives skin its color. If your skin is exposed to sunlight, the body produces extra melanin to protect the skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
The most common areas to see age spots are the face, hands, arms, and shoulders. Age spots or sunspots are common in adults older than 50, but those who are younger can also get them if they spend time in the sun.
• Sunspots are harmless, but they can be cosmetically annoying. To remove these spots, there are several options:
• Microdermabrasion or a noninvasive treatment involving exfoliating the skin
• Chemical peels or smoothing an acid solution onto the skin to exfoliate and peel away the dead cells
• Laser or IPL (Intense pulsed light) involves using a high-intensity beam of light to heat up and break up the melanin in dark spots.
To remedy stretch marks, you can use the following:
- Pulsed dye laser therapy or a painless blast of light is used on red stretch marks.
- Fractional CO2 laser therapy is a treatment that smooths out old white stretch marks.
- Excimer laser therapy exposes stretch marks to ultraviolet B (UVB) light. Microdermabrasion uses crystals to rub off the top layer of the skin. Chemical peels or an acidic solution that burn off the top layers of your skin and removes deadend.
- Damaged cells also boost new skin growth
- Radiofrequency creates heat by using radiofrequency, and this promotes collagen.
